Amigos cercanos, familia y buena comida son imprescindibles en una celebración, sin embargo los pequeños detalles son los que le dan a la cena su estilo. Como se acerca Thanksgiving -Día de Acción de Gracias y ya estoy en los preparativos de la cena. Estas son algunas ideas para que la mesa de ese día sea sencillamente espectacular. No importa el tipo de evento que tengas en mente, seguro éstas te inspirarán.
Close friends, family and delicious food are essential to a celebration, but thoughtful details give a dinner party its style. Since Thanksgiving´s around the corner I´m in planning mood. Here are a few ideas to create a distinctly beautiful table for your Thanksgiving dinner. It does´t matter if you´re throwing an elegant affair or a laid back dinner, I´m sure you´ll get inspired for this special day.
Primero lo primero, el mantel.
First things first, the Tablecloth
Dado que para Thanksgiving hay que colocar muchos platos y bandejas, copas y adornos, es mejor poner un mantel unicolor o lo más neutro posible; así daremos protagonismo al pavo y a los demás acompañantes. Estos manteles de Zara Home son una buena opción. También puede ser uno de color ocre, naranja y hasta marrón; los colores otoñales también lucen estupendos y aportan calidez al conjunto.

Since for Thanksgiving we have to set many plates and platters, glasses and ornaments in this meal, it´s better to set the table with a monochromatic or neutral tablecloth. That´ll give the turkey and side dishes all the spotlight. These tablecloths from Zara Home are a good option. You can also use a yellow, orange and even brown tablecloth. Fall colors are great for this occasion and give warmth to the table.
Si eres de los que prefiere poner individuales en vez de un mantel, estos inspirados en los pavos, de Crate&Barrel ¡me traen de cabeza! lástima que no nos compré en mi último viaje. ¡Son sencillamente espectaculares!

Otra idea simpática y que he utilizado un par de veces en mis cheese parties es colocar un mantel de papel de embalar. Así puedes escribir con tiza o rotuladores los nombres de los comensales o los de los platos a degustar, etc.

Another cool idea that I´ve used a few times durning my cheese parties is to cover the table with wrapping paper. You can write with chalk or with markers the names of the guests or of each dish, etc.
Si no quieres escribir en ellos, estos rollos de papel con motivos que venden en IKEA son una excelente opción y, cuando todos se vayan, es una cosa menos que hay que lavar jejeje.

Los bajo platos
The Charger Plates
Otro básico imprescindible es el plato de fondo o bajo plato. Le dará a tu mesa el toque chic y refinado. Van desde los más formales hasta los de plástico; pasando por los de papel hasta los más originales como troncos de madera. Aquí déjate llevar por tu imaginación y el mood que le quieras dar a la velada. A mi hay veces que me apetece darle un toque mas formal y elegante a la mesa y otras con unos doillies ya estoy feliz.

Another must are the charger plates. With them your table will be chic and refined. They range from the more formal ones to made out of plastic and from paper to wood ones. Let your imagination run wild and create the mood you want for your party. Sometimes, I´m more into formal and elegant tables whereas others with a couple of doilies as chargers I´m all set.

Saving the best part for the end, the ornaments
Últimamente, en vez de un centro de mesa con flores enormes (que no dejan que nadie se vea la cara y converse) me gusta más colocar pequeños adornos por toda la mesa. Puedes colocar portavelas con velitas, jarronsitos con flores (mejor si son naturales), piñas, calabazas naturales o de porcelana; lo que mas te guste!

Instead of placing a big flower arrangement in the center of the table (that are a niusance because you can´t see who´s in front or talk to then during the dinner party) I like to place small ornaments all over the table. You can place little votives, flowers (natural ones please), pine cones, all sorts of pumpkins; what ever you like best!
Otro detalle que me encanta y que generalmente se reserva para cenas mas formales es colocar el nombre de cada comensal en su puesto. Con este detalle cerrarás con broche de oro la velada de Thanksgiving y cada quien se lo podrá de llevar de recuerdo a su casa. Como verás hay millones de opciones y formas de hacerlo, ánimate que seguro les fascinará.
