I love it when people come to visit. You don´t stick to routine, you have company and you go off to wander and discover the wonders of the area.

This time around, it was Casa de la Ermita winery´s turn. It´s located in El Carche in Jumilla.

Para ir es necesario hacer reservación. Los datos están en su página web.

You must make a reservation beforehand. All the info is on their website.

After the tour of the vineyards and winery you can taste the wines (it´s optional) at a rate of 5eur per person (if my memory doesn´t t deceive me lol)

Kiddos are allowed ... they do not drink wine but mine end up as if they did ....

Nothing beats an Arrocito -rice- (as usual) in Jumilla to end the day and go home with a full belly and a happy heart ; )

Cheers!

Easter table

After Xmas, Easter is one of my favorite holidays. It gives us the chance to re-decorate the house, you can do nice things with flowers and Easter eggs and there's the Easter Hunt in which I participate as if it were another kiddo

This year I did a great table with the metal cubes (I got from Tiger when I was visiting my friend Ma Giulia in Madrid) and a cupcake stand that Fonse brought me to decorate each place set with chocolate eggs for each guest . Thanks to Karina´s magical lens  the table looks like the ones in the magazines!

As you can see, I even set to different tables.... One for kiddos and one for adults.

Angry bird cake- Step by Step

Truth be told, after checking the blog at this point, last year I did tons of things for Joaco´s bday. This year, with Fiona´s communion and that Joaco´s classmates invited us to eat a rice at Lorquí I really didn´t prepare anything. With such an outcome,  I decided to make him an Angry Birds cake (which is the theme he loves) and well, it was an opportunity to test my recently acquired knowledge. So far, the only one I've done is the Halloween one I made and, judging by the results, I think it came out cool, didn´t it???

For the cake recipe, as usual .... you´ll find it in Kozinandito

Finally, after almost three years, I was able see Mary. Our friendship began years ago when she came back from her internship in Barcelona and I began my role in Telefónica´s HR Communications Department. Now, she lives in Madrid and I in Murcia and our all girl´s weekend was totally atomic. We had a lot of catching up to do, walked through Madrid, ate deliciously (and I will talk about the places later on) and even went to the circus! I hope to repeat it soon, we sure had a great time. Next time, she´ll have to come to Murcia, although I can not promise it to be an all-girls weekend lol ... Here, all four members of the Llamas Yanes family will be waiting for her.

My weekend begins with a train ride. From Murcia´s El Carmen station towards Chamartin where I would meet Mary. Accompanied by a good book and a fantastic view, the hours flew by! Our meeting as expected, kisses and hugs and the joy of reuniting with a dear friend. From there to her house and talking, talking until it was time to leave for dinner.

We went walking from her home to Lateral. I recommend it if you you haven´t been there. I don´t know exactly to which one we went, because there are several in Madrid. I've been looking at the pics of the locals they have posted on line and they look nice, once spring comes and it´s a little warmer it´ll sure be nice to sit on one of the terraces. If you go (or if I go again) do not forget to ask for the solidarity skewer. In doing so, Lateral contributes 0.50 eur to the Balia Foundation that "develops socio-educational projects to care for children, youth and families at risk of social exclusion "

Saturday, culture day. I had heard that in the Palacio de Cibeles they were exhibiting paintings from the House of Alba and so we went. We enjoyed the exhibition but the terrace even more. I had seen online that the Palace had a cafeteria as well a restaurant in the last floor; so we went to check it out. A beauty, so much so that we sat down to enjoy some well-deserved drinks with pate and rolls. The Palace also had other exhibits which we enjoyed. I can not forget the short walk around the Retiro to make time while waiting to enter the exhibition. If you plan to go and do not have much time, it is better to buy the tickets online lol so you don´t have to wait.

Sunday, day of tastings and back to childhood. Cheese and circus day. For lunch we went to Cheese Bar. Mary wanted to surprise me and she did. The place is magical and well, and since it´s all about cheese, for me it´s more so. We tried to go the night before but it was full. So, if you want to go, I recommend booking. We ordered a little bit of everything. Both the cheese board (which in our case we chose all the cheeses ourselves) and a salad with pasiego cheese and to finish a hearty risotto After a while, it was time to stretch our legs, so we decided to take coffee and dessert elsewhere. We went to Mama Framboise ... and had to take dessert to go because the place was packed. So we bought the macaroons and the occasional delicacy to bring back home and had our coffee at another coffee shop.

The icing of the weekend was the Cirque du Soleil show, Kooza. Speechless. It was aluciflipante as Clementina (from one of the books my Fiona reads) Very grateful to have been able to go. We both loved it. If by any chance the show´s playing in a city nearby from where you live, don´t let the opportunity pass. It's wonderful. We were on edge the whole show, otherworldly acrobatics, beautiful costumes and music with a live band! Sooooooo worth it.

Well, the weekend comes to an end. As is usual good times fly by. However, I´m very pleased and happy to have been able to go, to be together and remember good times.

Aqui te esperamos con los brazos abiertos.

We are waiting for you here, with open arms.

To tell you the truth, when I tasted my first glass with pure olive oil I was surprised and even told Cheli that as it was probably the first time that I took it this way! It was quite an experience. I've been to wine tastings, cava and champagne ones, I was recently in a cheese tasting  and now an olive oil one. The tasting took place at El Estudio de Ana by the hand of the Almazara Valle de Ricote and Freddy Salmeron´s miraculous hand in the kitchen.

Here are some facts that I learned during this great experience.
Almazara??? I confess it was the first time I heard the word. Luckily today we have smartphones and I have a data plan and Wikipedia exists because I knew what it meant in situ. For those of you who are still in blank, here it is: The word comes from the Arabic oil press or mill المعصرة  (al-Ma'sara) and means "place where squeezed" (referring to the olive). With this mechanism we obtain mainly olive oil.

The color of oil is not an important factor when determining its quality, reason why the tasting glasses are blue ... so that the eye does not deceive the palate lol... The color of the oil depends on the olive variety used to make the oil and the time in which it was collected. There are over 262 olive varieties  in Spain.

Olives grown in the Mediterranean, California, South America, South Africa, China and Australia. All produce olive oil and guess what? everyone likes theirs... Asturias does not produce olives and Spain produces 40% of the world's olive oil. Some 1.6 million tons while the rest of the world produces 1.9 million tons. The Spanish eat 12 kg of olive oil per person per year while the rest of the world only 0.4kgs (except the Mediterranean)

We need 5kgs of olives to make 1 liter of olive oil

Speaking of that bottle of olive oil ... There are different categories
Extra Virgin Olive Oil 100%  olives and flawless
Virgin Olive Oil 100%  olives and has slight defecst in oxidation or fermentation
Olive Oil: a blend of refined oils and virgin ones

Now down to business. That night we tasted four varieties: Changlo real, Cuquillo, Arbequina and Picual. Of the four, my favorite one was Cuquillo (which, according to them is the equivalent to the Manzanillo variety)To taste it the oil should be warm. Thus you should hold the glass with both hands. It should be covered so the smell does not evaporate. Once uncovered smell it and, here as with wine and everything else that you smell,  each one expresses what they smell ... and what it reminds them of ... And then, you taste it and Uff  as I said at the beginning it´s super funny and a real surprise.

Real Changlo: smelled good and it reminded me of the Caprese salad I had eaten the night before. When you taste it, at the begining it seemed it did not taste at all and then BAM! your tonsils sting a lot.
Luckily it was not a persistent itching.Cuquillo was  more dense
in my mouth but they said it did not have as much body as the one before. Definitely a lot less spicy than the last one.Arbequina: balanced and it sure would taste wonderful with bread ... There, what we had to clean the  palate between each oil  was green apple. So I'll have to buy a bottle of this yellow gold to take care off the craving lol.Picual: this one seems harmless at first but then bewareit turns spicy.
