ABC´s of me

Desde hace tiempo soy miembro de VoiceBoks, una comunidad de bloggers muy especial y particular. En ella, siempre están buscando formas originales de mantenernos a todos activos y participando y una de ellas es esta: Escribir un post tipo acróstico en el que hablemos de nosotros. Esto parece tarea fácil... aunque no estoy segura de que así sea.  ¡Manos a la obra!
 Para hacerlo diferente al de los demás, todos tienen adjetivos o palabras que los describen en inglés, haré el mio con las palabras en español  (haré todas las que pueda... No hay palabras con W en español)
 

 It´s been a while since I´m a part of VoiceBoks, a very special and particular blogger community. In it, they are always looking for original ways to keep everyone active and involved and one of those activities is this one: Write an acrostic type post where we talk about ourselves. This seems easy ... although I'm not sure it´ll be.   Let´s get started!

 For a change, everyone elses post has adjectives or words describing them in English, I´ll do mine with the word in Spanish (as many as I can... there´s no word mith W in Spanish)

Amiga  {Friend} I consider myself a friend. I´m always there for them in some cases putting my needs behind. Love to make new friends and to cherish them. It´s in times like the ones I´m living that I really understand the true meaning of friends
Me considero una amiga. Me gusta estar allí para ellos, en ocasiones dejando atrás mis necesidades. Me encanta hacer amigos y apreciarles. En momentos como éstos es que de verdad entiendo el significado que los amigos tienen en mi vida.

Bailarina {Balerina/Dancer} I love to dance, to any type of music, alone, with someone or in a group. I dance with my eyes closed...
Me encanta bailar, cualquier tipo de música, sola, en pareja o en grupo. Bailo con los ojos cerrados...

Caraqueña {Caraqueña- how you call citizens from Caracas} Now that I´m living in another city, I realise that I am a true-and very pround to be-Caraqueña!!! 
Ahora que vivo en otra ciudad, me doy cuenta de lo caraqueña, y a mucha honra, que soy!!!

Dormilona {Sleepyhead} Nothing better than staying in bed, with a good book, a good movie or series or a rainy day; cuddling with a loved one with a fine down comforter. 
 Nada mejor que quedarse en cama con un buen libro, una buena peli o serie o en un día lluvioso; acurrucándonos con un ser querido y un buen plumón.

Exagerada {Exagerated} It´s something I do... Instead of saying: "There were a few" I say "There were a million" I always prepare more food than what´s needed i.e. for parties.
Es algo que hago... en vez de decir, "había unos cuantos" digo "había millónes" Siempre hago o compro para una fiesta más comida de la que hace falta.

Fotogénica {Photogenic} I always, always, always come out with the same smile in all of my pictures.
Desde que recuerdo, siempre, siempre, siempre salgo con la misma sonrisa en las fotos.

Geminis {Gemini} Totally me.
Absolutamente yo.

Habladora {Talkative} Love chit chat, love to talk and I always have something to say. Can talk for hours even with stangers as if I´ve known them all my life.
Soy parlanchina, me encanta hablar y siempre tengo algo que decir.Puedo hablar largo y tendido aunque sea con alguien que en mi vida haya visto.

Indecisa {Undecided} Can´t make up my mind when I need to.

Llorona {Weepy} I´m a weeper, movies, books, commercials. I cry easily... so much so that if there´s something emotinal on TV, my 8 year old turns around and asks: "Mom are you going to cry?" 
 Lloro por todo, las pelis, los libros, las propagandas y lloro facilmente... tanto así que si hay algo en la tele medio sentimental, mi hija de 8 años se voltea a verme y me dice: "¿Vas a llorar mami?

Moda {Fashionista} Love clothes, shoes, purses, fashion, designers and putting it all together. I wish I could wear something different each day... I don´t really need to own it, just to wear it and have fun with it. 
Me encantan la ropa, los zapatos, las carteras, la moda, los diseñadores y combinarlo todo. Me encantaría poder ponerme algo diferente todos los días... no necesito que sea mío, sólo usarlo y divertirme con ello.

Nutella {Neutral} my "diet" downfall...

Olores {Smells}Love aromas, house and linnen freshners, lotions, perfumes, incense sticks... you name it. Love vainilla, jazmin and citrus scents!
Me encantan los aromas, los ambientadores de hogar y de telas, las cremas, los perfumes y los inciensos... todo me encanta. Mis preferidos son la vainilla, el jazmín y los cítricos.

Purses {Carteras} Simply put: There´s always room for one more.
Sencillo: Siempre se puede tener una más.

Quisquillosa {Picky} I like some things MY WAY and there is no negotiating!
Ciertas cosas me gustan A MI MANERA y eso no es negociable!

Reuniones {Gatherings} Love to play hostess and have people come over; to plan in advance what I´m going to serve, how I´m going to put it on the table, etc. Love sites such as BHG, Pinterest, etc. where I get tons of ideas and try to have the perfect party.
Me encanta entretener e invitar a la gente a casa y planificar con atelación el obsequio, como servirlo en la mesa para que se vea espectacular. Me encantan los sitios como BHG, Pinterest  en los que encuentro ideas fabulosas que trato de llevar a cabo para que la party sea perfecta.

Sociable {Outgoing} I´m not shy, I like to participate in new things, meet new people talk to them. When in group activities they ask for a volunteer I´m the first in line. I laugh at myself.
No soy penosa, me gusta participar y hacer cosas nuevas, conocer gente y hablar con ellos. En actividades grupales, si piden un voluntario, seguro levanto la mano. Me rio de  mi.

Tree Hugger {Friend}Love to recycle and to take care of the environment.

Tinto, blanco, rosado....Champagna, Cava, Prosseco. Viñedos, cosechas, bodegas. Pan y queso también. Copas, amigos, comidas al aire libre, conversas & brindis.

Writing {Escribir} Love an agenda, a calendar, pens, markers, stickers, diaries, blogging, doddling, writing, jotting, penmenship, fonts, etc.
Me encanta una agenda, un calendario, las plumas o bolis, los marcadores y los rotuladores, las calcomanía ó pegatinas, los diarios, bloggear, garabatear, escribir, anotar, las letras rebuscadas, las fuentas, etc.


X Generation {Generación X} It´s the generation I belong to... those of us that were born between 1970 & 1981...
Es la generación a la que pertenezco... los que nacimos entre el 70 y el 81...

Yucky {Yucky} Guess I´m a weird creature, to me mayo is just yucky!! 
 Quizá sea un extraterrestre, la mayonesa, para mi, es simplemente yucky!!

 Zarrapastroso {Scruffy} A definite no no on my list. One must always look our best.
 El NO más alto de mi lista. Uno siempre debe estar lo mejor que pueda.

Vistas

 Solo hasta que no vives en tu país natal te das cuenta de lo mucho que te gustaban unas cosas y cuanto las extrañas. Ese es el caso de El Avila para mi. Siempre presente, siempre verde, siempre majestuoso, siempre protector.
 

 Only until you live far away from  home you realize how much you liked some things and how much you miss them. That is the case of El Avila for me. Always present, always green, always majestic, always protective.

Para quienes no sepan de qué hablo, el Parque Nacional El Avila es una formación montañosa que forma parte de la Cadena del Litoral dentro de la Cordillera de la Costa, emblema y pulmón de Caracas. Ahora que regresé por unos días me dediqué a contemplarlo todos los días desde la terraza de mi casa y recordé las miles de veces que soñé, sentada en las escaleras, sólo viéndolo y disfrutando de su inmensidad.

 For those who do not know what I am talking about, the Avila National Park is a mountain formation that is part of the Coast Range in the Cordillera de la Costa, Caracas´emblem and lungs. Now that I went back for a few days, I saw myself contemplating it every day from the terrace of my house and I remembered the thousands of times I dreamt, sitting on the stairs, just watching and enjoying its immensity.

Fotos de El Avila seguro hay miles, quizá más espectaculares que las mías, sin embargo, las que comparto aquí tienen especial significado para mi. Bien sea porque son desde la terraza de mi casa, desde la nueva casa de mi amiga Glenda o desde el móvil, manejando hacia mis varios destinos en la ciudad, son las que hasta mi nueva visita me harán recordar.

Espero las disfruten tanto como yo. Se les quiere

I´m sure that there are thousands of pictures of El Avila, perhaps more spectacular than mine, However, the ones I share here are of special significance for me. Whether they are the ones taken from the terrace of my house, from my friend Glenda´s new home or from my phone, while driving to my various destinations in the city, they are the ones that´ll help me remember.

Back Home

Casi que writer´s block o sencillamente pocas ganas de enfrentarme a los recuerdos de mi reciente viaje a Caracas.  Aun ahora, que decido que tengo tiempo y que deseo compartir las fotos de mi viaje me quedo speachless y sin mucho que aportar. No se si por el tiempo transcurrido o por si acaso al escribirlas dejan de pertenecerme y de estar cerca en mi memoria.Comida suculenta que evoca recuerdos, familia a la que tuve la oportunidad de volver a ver, amigos muy queridos y añorados y la magestuosidad de El Avila resumen de buena manera lo positivo de mi estadía... deterioro indescriptible, inseguridad y cómo condiciona tu vida y tener que decir Hasta Luego una vez más, conforman  lo menos grato... El balance, ¡TOTALMENTE POSITIVO! La próxima vez, más días porque 15 se me fueron en un abrir y cerrar de ojos y quedó mucho por hacer, ver y rememorar.

Almost writer's block or just unwillingness to confront the memories of my recent trip to Caracas. Even now, when I decide that I have the time and I want to share photos of my trip, I'm speachless and without much to contribute. Don´t know if it´s because of the time that has gone by or just the feeling that they will no longer belong to me and be close in my memory. Succulent food that evokes memories, family that I had the opportunity to see again, friends that I love and long for and the majesty of El Avila summarize in a good way all the positive aspects of my trip... unspeakable degradation, insecurity and it´s influence in your life and to have to say Good Bye once again, are a part of the less pleasurable ... The balance, TOTALLY POSITIVE! Next time, I´ll spend more than 15 days. They went by in the blink of an eye and muchs was left undone, seen and to be remembered.

 

Comencemos por la comida, ¡la mejor manera de ganarse a cualquiera! Todos como que pensaron que aquí en Murcia comía poca carne porque no dejaron de hacer parrilladas en mi honor. Sin contar con toda la que preparamos tanto para el cumple de Fonse (mi mamá) como para el mío.

Let's start with the food, the best way to win someone over! Everyone must have thought that here in Murcia I don´t eat a lot of meat because they all Bar-B-Q`d in my honor; and I`m not taking into consideration all the food we prepared for Fonse´s b-day (my mom) or for mine.

Tampoco podemos dejar atras los litros de Prosecco, Cava y Champage que nos tomamos para celebrarlo todo, claro está acompañado de buen quesito blanco, arepitas y hasta cachapitas. Ah y los tequeños.... uno de mis pocos antojos antes de partir de España y pisar el Nuevo Mundo, jejeje. De mañana, no podía faltar la papaya, servida en la terraza de mi casa de soltera, con una vista inigualable y en donde viví gratos momentos, plato indispensable en un desayuno "sano" para dejar los excesos  de las parrandas atrás... y poder depurar un poco el cuerpo antes de volver a empezar.

Nor can I not speak of the tons of Prosecco, Sparkling wine and Champage we drank to celebrate it all, of course accompanied by good white cheese, and even cachapitas & arepitas. (You´ll see what I mean once you look at the pictures) Oh and .... tequeños one of my few cravings before stepping from Spain into the New World, lol. In the morning, Papaya was a must, served on the terrace of my maide house, accompanied by a breathtaking view and where I lived pleasant moments, an indispensable "healthy" breakfast dish  to overcome partying excesses ... and to purify the body, a bit, before starting over again.

Aquí les dejo las fotos de las comilonas. Sólo con la barriguita llena podremos seguir el recuento de mi viaje y pasar al segundo capítulo, mientras hacemos una merecida digestión.
Here are the pictures of the feasts. Only with a full belly I can keep recounting my journey and move on to the second chapter, while a well  deserved digestion takes place.

Banana Bread

Hace tiempo que no cocinaba o mejor dicho horneaba algo.  Hoy me dió  el down y que mejor manera de combatirlo que cocinando algo rico y dulcito! Así que, como tenía unos cambures (plátanos) que estaban a punto de caducar y de no servir ni para cakes, decidí hacer un banana bread.
En Caracas solía hacer una de mi recetario compilado de por aquí y por allá. Hoy, despues de mucho buscar me decidí por una mezcla de las que salen en bhg.com y de tasteofhome.com + un toque mío ya que me gustan mucho la canela y la vainilla. Veremos que tal porque mientras escribo está en el horno y huele a gloria!!! Espero sepa tan rico como huele y que un buen vaso de leche o una bola de helado de vainilla le quede como anillo al dedo. Aquí les dejo mi receta de Banana Bread y lo que quedó de él... jejeje

It´s been a while since I´ve cooked or rather baked something. Today I was feeling a little low and what better way to fight it than cooking something sweet and delicious! So, since I had some bananas that were was about to expire and not even be good enough for cakes,  I decided to bake banana bread.In Caracas, I used a recipe from my cookbook that compiled from here and there. Today, after a lot of  search, I settled for a mix of the ones on bhg.com and tasteofhome.com + my personal touch  because I like cinnamon and vanilla in my banana bread. We´ll see  how it turns out because it´s in the oven as I write and smells like heaven! I hope it tastes as good as it smells and that a good glass of milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream fits it like a glove. Here is my recipe for Banana Bread and what was left of it... LOL

Brownie Fudge

Soy la más fan de las recetas de Chinmayie!!! Son fáciles, simples y muy saludables. Esta vez, luego de buscar y buscar recetas de brownies que quedaran bien oscuros (los necesitaba para la torta del cumple de Joaco-para hacer el caucho) me decidí, una vez más por una de su blog- Lovefoodeat. Es en realidad un brownie tipo fudge que, ademas de quedar como lo quería, gustó tanto que no sobró ni un pedacito para el día siguiente jeje.

I'm Chinmayie´s biggest fan! Her recipes are easy, simple and very healthy. This time, after a long search for the perfect brownies recipe (I needed it to make Joaco´s cake look like a tire) I decided, once again, to use of her blog-Lovefoodeat. It's actually a brownie fudge that, apart from baking the way I needed it, was a total hit. So much that there were no left overs for the next day lol.

Cumple de Joaco ~Joaco´s b-day

Ahora que ya han pasado varios días y que me he podido recuperar del EVENTO, me puedo sentar a contarles con lujo de detalle todos los acontecimientos. Como bien saben, había estado planificando este cumple desde hace muuuucho tiempo y bueno, creo que puedo decir que fue todo un éxito!

Now that a few days have gone by and that I´ve had time to recuperate from the EVENT, I can sit down and tell you all about the big day. I´d been planning Joaco´s party for such a looooong time and well, I can say that it was a total hit!

 El día comenzó tempranito, desde la noche anterior estaban ambos ansiosos con el cumple, así que por supuesto, se levantaron antes que de costumbre. Menos mal que había dejado el regalito envuelto y la mesa puesta desde la noche anterior... sino no hubiese podido hacerle la sorpresa.



 The day began bright and early. They were both anxious so they woke up earlier than they usually do. Thank God that I wrapped his presnt and set the table before going to bed... if I hadn´t done so he wouldn´t have had a nice surprise.


Idos los dos al cole me puse manos a la obra. Tenía aun cosas por hacer, algunas las había hecho durante la semana, pero la puesta en escena final sólo podía hacerla el mismo día del cumple. Comencemos por la mesa de la torta. Tenía pensado que fuera como una calle así que compré un mantel negro de papel y un tape blanco e hice como si fuese una calle. Esto  mismo lo hice desde la entrada de la casa hasta la puerta que da hacia la terraza.

 



With both of them gone to school I had to get on with it. There were still a few things that needed to be done. I organiced and decorated a few things but, most of it had to be done the same say of the bday. I´ll start with The Cake´s Table. I thought that a street like tablecloth could do the trick. So, I bought a roll of  black paper an some white tape and with them I created the road. I did the same "road" from the front door to the one leading to the terrace.

Los cotillones*  o regalitos de salida si bien no eran  muy alusivos al tema de la party, estaban a muy buen precio y siempre son mejor que la típica bolsa de chuches a la que están acostumbrados aquí. Así que con una buena etiqueta del cumple (por supuesto diseñada por mi jeje) y mis cestas de costumbre.... llegamos a la meta sin problema alguno.
* Son de Ikea y estaban a 0, 99 EUR!

The party favors* weren´t related to theparty´s  theme, but were at a great price and are always better than the typical bag full of sweets that´s  customary here. So with a good bday tag (designed by me of cpurse) and my super cool baskets .... we got to the finish line without any problems.
